In order to meet the needs of petroleum exploration the efficient and reliable well logging system is to be developed. The Well logging system is one of the telemetry systems which consist of the well logging instruments, the cable telemetry subsystem and the surface subsystem. Bus technology is needed for well logging system in order to make sure the communication reliable and efficient between the different subsystems. In this thesis, the application of 1553B bus in well logging system is introduced.1553B bus has been used in the project after studying the characteristic of field bus and the well logging system. One brief induction about field bus is made and then the difference between 1553B bus and CAN bus is analyzed.How to using 1553B bus to help developing bus protocol which is adapt to well logging system is discussed in chapter three.Based on the first three chapters, the realizing of the interface between well logging instruments and surface system is demonstrated in chapter four.Both the hardware and software of the interface is explained in this chapter. The interface is constructed by two PCBs. The interconnection of the two subsystems is realized by FPGA. Then the design of the 1553B bus controller is showed in chapter five. It is emphasized that how to realize the 1553B message handling, error checking, message buffering and protocol monitoring. The bus controller is designed using FPGA, too.
