Cartographic generalization has obtained to very greatly progress in many respects through several decades of development. Along with research of thorough, we find that the problem ofdata quality after generalization more and more needs to get a homologous value. So the problemof data quality has already arrived to need to carry on a research. A set of quality evaluates indexsystem main problems based on constraints are pointed out, and assessment model based on the fuzzy assessment method is founded. The main works and creations are as the following:1. The background and current research of cartographic generalization are analyzed, and the problems that are pointed out. Vital theory and method are brought forward.2. The conception, classification and representation methods are introduced. The constraints to map generalization is researched, and a methodology to assess the quality of generalization based on constraints is also put forward.3. The main problem of the cartographic generalization is analyzed. The set of constraints to map generalization is founded, the particular possible measly and action to enforce for every constraints is pointed out.4. A new cartographic generalization quality assessment model is devised. The model contains the methods of the fuzzy assessment method, which is based the cartographic generalization constrains.5. The experimental system to assess the quality of generalization based on constraints is designed and realized. The system has realized four functions. managing the data, controlling the display of a map, constraining the map and assessing the quality. All the functional modules are implementing by components. The software development environment of the system is Visual Studio 2005, and the development language is C#.
