In this thesis, the synthesis of phenyl mesylate has been reviewed, including the synthesis methods, research progress and their shortcomings. The main topic of this thesis is to explore a green chemistry method (solvent-free reaction) to prepare phenyl mesylate using the phenol as the reactant. Various acid catalysts such as Protonic acid, Lewis acid, zinc salt, sulfate were employed in the preparation of phenyl mesylate. A suitable catalyst--zinc chloride was found. A series of optimization work, including the catalyst loading, reaction temperature, feed ratio, catalyst recycling, etc., were also carried out.The synthesis of other compounds containing hydroxyl groups, phenolic compounds for the protection can also be done by this green, atom economic, economical synthesis method.
