Under its continuous development, Geographic Information System (GIS) is now displaying improved functions for a wide range of quick applications in various fields. With more nature reserves being established today, there actually reveals an urgent need to handle those massive data and the disadvantages of traditional environmental management become increasingly evident. Therefore, it would play a vital role in the development of nature reserves to apply the GIS technology and to build an environmental management information system for nature reserves.Based on the current environmental management of nature reserves at home and abroad, this paper focuses on the environmental characteristics of Shiren Mountain Nature Reserve and attempts to build a GIS-based environmental management information system of Shiren Mountain Nature Reserve. It first makes a brief introduction to the environmental resources of Shiren Mountain Nature Reserve. Subsequently, the environmental management information system of Shiren Mountain Nature Reserve is divided into six function modules according to the feasibility analysis and needs analysis and the system is designed as per the requirements of system design objectives and principles, including system overall design, system function design, and system database design. Moreover, ArcGIS Engine 9.3 is used as the development platform of the system along with the development language of Visual C# and the components and related interfaces in the component kit of ArcGIS Engine are fully utilized for system development; all the modules are integrated and continuously debugged, thus achieving the main function of data loading, map operation, data conversion, attribute query, spatial query, buffer analysis, and environmental health assessment. Finally, the system is applied to the environmental management of Shiren Mountain Nature Reserve and results show that the system could achieve the desired effects as required by needs analysis, enhance the efficiency of Shiren Mountain Management Department, and thus promote the coordination and sustainability of environmental, economic, and social development in Shiren Mountain Nature Reserve. |
