The SBR technology is different from the traditional activated sludge method, and it combines almost a ll the functions of sewage treatment process together a unique reactor. The SBR process has many advantages including running stable ly, good sludge settling properties, high shock load capacity and so on. What’s more, SBR can efficiently reduce the concentration of organic contaminants in sewage. However, the SBR process is difficult to achieve removing nitrogen and phosphorus at the same time. Therefore, if a new enhanced way was invented on the basis of traditional SBR process, the achievement is worthy the attempt.Diatomite has a lot of advantages including large reserves, small partic le size, uniform particle, large specific surface area, high bulk density, high porosity, powerful adsorption properties, well chemical stability, non-toxic, and etc. In recent years, diatomite has been wide ly used in water treatment, diatomaceous earth can be used to treat wastewater, sewage, heavy metals, oily wastewater, wastewater containing fluoride. The properties of diatomite modifying activated sludge wastewater treatment has been gradually get attention, but it is not form a mature theoretical system. When diatomite is used for sewage treatment, on the one hand, it has strong adsorption capacity; on the other hand, it also conta ins a portion of a luminum and molysite ma inly facilitate the precipitation of phosphorus. Thus coagulating effect and removal effect of some pollutants are strengthened with diatomite added. If diatomite was added into SBR reactor process, it would also play the role as the filler for microbia l growth. Therefore, it is worthy waiting to know the strengthening effect of dosing diatomite into the SBR process. And my experiment is adding diatomite into SBR process, and the experimental procedure and results are as follow. The sewage of the test is taken from a university in Baoding. In order to strengthen the biological treatment process, a certain concentration of diatomite slurry will be added in to the SBR reactor. The effluent concentration of CODCr, NH3-N, TN and TP will be tested. The test is divided into two steps. The first, adjust running parameters of the test SBR. In detail, this test is used plexiglass column to simulate the actual operation of SBR process in treatment plants, In order to achieve optimum operating conditions of the SBR device, parameters inc luding MLSS, SV%, DO, aeration time and operating cycle will be adjusted, patiently. The second step is the stage of diatomite strengthening the SBR process. Optima l dosing phase and optimal dosage of diatomite will be determined, under optimum operating conditions in the first stage the SBR device. Effluent concentration of CODCr, NH3-N, TN and TP four indicators of the reactor will be detected verify whether them meet the "Urban sewage treatment plant pollutant discharge standard"(GB18918-2002) level A standard.Through the study, it was found that the effluent water quality of SBR process reinforced by diatomaceous earth has improved significantly; the effect on the various pollutants in the water treatment is obvious. This process can save resources and money, does not need too much established structures, and has no pollution to the environment, so it is can be used in sewage treatment plant upgrading.
