Corrosion caused by microorganisms or affected by microbial iscalled microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC).Such as offshore oil platforms, seabed pipelines are seriously affected by the microbial corrosion.MIC has caused huge losses to the national economy.Microbial corrosion of stainless steel is a very complex process. And people begin to pay attention to the phenomenon of corrosion. With increasing needs in life environments, sanitation and health cares, people will pay more attention to all kinds of healthy environmental problems, such as environment of living space, cleaning of goods, personal safety and so on. Therefore, application of antibacterial materials and products will become one of leading actors in the 21 century ecological environment. As the combination of functional materials and environmental materials, Cu-bearing antibacterial metal materials possess good prospects because of their advantages such as non-toxic, dainty, wear resistant, long term efficiency and processing easiness, which are not comparable to other antibacterial materials.Copper antibacterial stainless steel not only has the advantage of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the original, but also has advantages of antimicrobial properties. Using the antibacterial properties of antibacterial stainless steel to solve the serious phenomenon is not only a innovative thinking, but also a new application of antibacterial stainless steel. This paper chooses two different copper containing 304 stainless steels as antibacterial experimental samples and 304 stainless steel as the control sample. Under aerobic conditions, we have cultured IOB bacteria. And SRB bacteriahave beencultured under anaerobic conditions. We have also cultured IOB and SRB mixed bacteria. In three different conditions, we have researched the antibacterial ability and p H variety of antibacterial stainless steel and stainless steel.Use electrochemical test(electrochemical impedance method, the nernst curve and polarization curve) methodsto characterize the impedance of three kinds of stainless steel.Use weight loss methodto calculate corrosion rate of three differentkinds of stainless steels. We havefurther researched the corrosion behavior of microbial under IOB, SRB and mixed bacteria, respectively. We use SEM to observe the distribution and adhesion of bacteria, use laser confocal technique to observed surface corrosion morphologyof the stainless steel, especially microbial characteristics of pitting corrosion morphology pit.
