TiO2 has been applied in photocatalytic research field because of its excellent properties. It can absorb ultraviolet light only due to its broad band gap, which limits its practical application greatly. The absorption range of TiO2 can be enlarged via surface photosensitization and so as to enhance its photocatalytic activity. It has been one of the research hot spots. Organic dyes are used as sensibilizers, but the stability is low because of their self-degradation during the photocatalytic process. As a new kind of sensibilizer metal-organic coordination has been paid more attention. In this paper a review of development of photosensitization of metal-organic coordination to TiO2 is reported. It is also investigated the sensitive effects of Co-(8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid) complex to TiO2. The main contents are as follows:1. The development of photosensitization to TiO2 is summarized from kind of sensibilizer and morphology of TiO2 two sides. The photosensitization mechanisms and challenges of this new technology are analysized.2. Co-HQS complex was synthesized firstly, and then Co-HQS-TiO2 was prepared via hydrothermal method. The structure and property of photocatalyst had been characterized by using XRD, UV-Vis-DRS, XPS, SEM and so on.3. The photocatalytic degradation of phenol was researched by using Co-HQS-TiO2 photocatalyst under xenon lamp irradiation. The optimal preparation condition of Co-HQS-TiO2 has been determined according to the effects of amount of Co-HQS,temperature and time of hydrothermal reaction on the photocatalytic degradation of phenol. At same time the influences of different photocatalyst and its adding amount to photocatalytic system on the degradation of phenol are studied. The stability of Co-HQS-TiO2 and its reutilization are investigated.
