Inertia friction welding is a kind of solid-state welding method which contains complex thermal and stress changes in the process. During the process, the energy of the flywheel converted into heat energy which makes material up to plastic state for the rapid improved temperature. Then the welding is done under the action of pressure and friction heat welding. Friction welding is widely used in aerospace, automotive and other fields with its characteristics of energy-saving, environmental protection and efficient characteristics.Nowadays most of the researchers often adopt finite element software to simulate the process of welding. This method not only saves time, shortens the test period, but also reduces the blindness of a lot of research and provides effective method in providing effective method to obtain the optimal process parameters quickly. The elastic-plastic finite element theory is adopted to establish the inertia friction welding process of two-dimensional axisymmetric and coupled thermo-mechanical fem model. Use coulomb model and the shearing model to simulate the friction behavior at different stages. The related theory were introduced in detail such as heat transfer theory, material elastoplastic problems and the calculation of torque. In this paper, by using the finite element software ABAQUS inertia friction welding GH4169 was investigated two-dimensional axisymmetric coupled thermo-mechanical finite element model. The grid of friction surface subdivided to guarantee the accuracy of calculation. The distribution of temperature field, stress and strain are simulated by this model. Two kinds of temperature measurement way was used to test and verify the reliability of the model. A thermocouple temperature measurement method and infrared temperature measurement method are used to measure the temperature. Calculate the temperature of the same location in the model, the calculated value is good agreement with experimental data.Choose the appropriate process parameters for simulating inertia friction welding process, and analysis of temperature field, stress and strain field and the distribution of axial shortening amount. Using single factor method and orthogonal test analysis influence law of the speed, pressure, moment of inertia on the highest temperature and the axial shortening amount. Get the conclusion:Change speed affected most obvious, then the pressure, moment of inertia the least. It provides a basis to optimize the welding parameters and welding process.
