The arylmaleimide derivatives have potential applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), fluorescent chemical sensors, biomedicine and fluorescent switch due to their advantages, such as high fluorescence intensity, excellent biocompatibility, easy synthesis and flexible chemical modification. For the outstanding properties of arylmaleimide derivatives, in this thesis, novel arylmaleimide-based fluorescent materials with different functions for various application fields have been designed and synthesized as follows:Using fluorene derivatives as arms, indolylmaleimide or phenylmaleimide derivatives as the core, two kinds of fluorescent dendrimers were synthesized by Suzuki coupling. The intramolecular and intermolecular energy transfer can make the dendrimers emit a strong red or orange light in solid states. On the other hand, a green-emitting dendrimer with high quantum yield was synthesized through the alkylation reaction by employing phenylmaleimide fluorophore and benzene as arms and core, respectively.Without extra catalyst and oxidant, we successfully synthesized a series of cyclic arylmaleimide derivatives and discussed the effect of the reaction time and substrate’s concentration on the reaction yield. The result is significant for the synthesis of cyclic arylmaleimides, which would promote the application of arylmaleimide derivatives in biomedical and fluorescent switch.Three anionic fluorescent chemical sensors were designed and synthesized by introducing substituent groups with different inductive effect into bisindolylmaleimide. Interestingly, the sensors exhibit different selectivity for anions in different solvents. As a result, H2PO4-, CN- and F- can be detected controllably and sensitive. The resulting molecules were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, time-of-flight mass spectrometer, UV-vis absorption spectra, photo luminescence spetrum, transient/steady-state fluorescence spectrum, circular voltammetry and thermogravimetry were employed to analysized the their properties.
