Chinese sweetgum can secrete a resin with aromatic smell when its truck was injured. These kinds of traumatic excretion were called the Chinese sweetgum resin. And one part called Pinene kind of essential oils separated by distillation, the other part were sweetgum resin which is a kind of potential market prospect of plant resources. As a new kind of natural resin, it was expected to be used in food, medicine and industrial additives, etc. This paper had a research on the nitrogen refining process of oleoresin of Chinese sweetgum from Guangxi province of China and evaluated the antibacterial activity, automatic oxidation ability and toxicity. The article also made the chewing gum products which used Chinese sweetgum resin as gum base additives. The main research results were summarized as follows:1) The oleoresin of Chinese sweetgum was processed by nitrogen and the discussed the effect of the boiler temperature, distillation time, nitrogen gas flow and vacuum suction time on the quality of Chinese sweetgum resin. The results showed that the optimum process conditions were as follows:the washed oleoresin of Chinese sweetgum was distilled by nitrogen in the flow of 3 L·min-1 at 180 ℃ for 30 minutes, and then distilled by vacuum suction for 10 minutes in 30 mm Hg. In this condition, the color grades of Chinese sweetgum resin was third grade, the softening point was 69℃, the acid value was 45.44 mgKOH·g-1.2) The antibacterial activity of Chinese sweetgum resin was determined by disk diffusion method. The results indicated: Chinese sweetgum resin had different degree inhibition on the four kinds of bacteria. The minimum bacteriostatic concentration(MIC) values were 0.3125 mg·m L-1(Escherichia coli), 1.25 mg·mL-1(Pseudomonas fluorescens), 0.156 mg·mL-1(Staphylococcus aureus) and 0.3125 mg·mL-1(Bacillus subtilis). There was no activity on Aspergillus niger of the resin.3) Chinese sweetgum resin was grinded to 120 mesh to study its oxidation resistance ability. The results showed: the resin was not easy to happen the oxidation at room temperature and the property was stable.4) According to a mature rubber formula, we had successfully produced gum base material by Chinese sweetgum resin and made the chewing gum products by this gum base. The performance test results showed that the Chinese sweetgum resin and other ingredients in the adhesive base compatibility were very well. The viscosity, rubber elastic and masticatory performance of the chewing gum sample were fine. But the gum base and chewing gum sample still remained the smell of resin.5) Acute test and accumulative toxicity test were conducted to assess the potential toxicity of Chinese sweetgum resin in mice. The results indicated that There was no death and abnormal in the acute test, so the median lethal dose(LD50) of Chinese sweetgum resin was over 16 g·kg-1. Chinese sweetgum resin was normally discharged in the gastric emptying test. No mice died in the accumulative text and there was no significant difference between experimental group and control group in pathological examination. Chinese sweetgum resin belonged to actually non-toxic substances, could be normal emptying, and had no accumulative toxicity in mice.
