Spinning is one of the most important processes in textile industry, which imparts the yarns a certain mechanical performance and appearance features to satisfy their application and functional requirements and determines the efficiency of subsequent processing and the quality of final products.In this paper, three models of twisting triangle space including width, height and tilt angle of the triangle space on spinning system were established. Based on the basis of compact spinning and the effect of the change in twisting triangle on yarn hairiness was discussed. A homemade fiber collector was installed in the dominant draft zone to regulate the width of twisting triangle space, and the effects of different triangle width on yarn quality were investigated. The influence of the height in twisting triangle space was analyzed by the means of the application of different twist and twist falling coupled with measurement of the yarn quality. In order to investigate the effect of tilt angle in triangle space, the tilt angle was changed by the installation of a small device in the front nip output area and the yarns which were obtained with different tilt angles were compared in terms of surface hairiness and mechanical properties.It is shown that the width, height and tilt angle of the twisting triangle space on ring spinning system has significant effect on yarn quality. The yarn hairiness longer than 3mm reduced 50.42% and the strength increased 7.83% when the fiber collector was used to reduce the triangle width to 1.8mm during the spinning of 40 s cotton yarn. The yarn hairiness longer than 3mm reduced 44.0% and the strength increased 2.4% when the fiber collector was used to reduce the triangle width to 1.6mm during the spinning of 60 s cotton yarn. With respect to 80 s cotton yarns, the long hairiness reduced 62.4% and the strength increased 18.6% when the opening of fiber collector was 1.4mm. The yarn hairiness reduced with the decrease of the triangle height, and it showed significant improvement in yarn hairiness and mechanical performance when the tilt angle of the twisting triangle space was appropriately arranged with the twist direction.
