Rocker Arm is one of the key parts in the Shearer. It can influence greatly the working performance of the Shearer. In the adverse circumstances, it not only subject resistance and axial force by cutting coal, but also temperature rise by friction in its teansmission system. And at the same time it also suffers the pollution and invasion of coal dust and water mist, and bad heat emission condition etc. Among which the heating of rocker arm is the common problem in actual working process. However, there is little research about temperature influence on structural strength of shearer rocker arm.(1) According to the thermal conduction theory and thermal convection principle, we analysis heat production and heat dissipation for shearer rocker arm, list heat balance equation based on the law of conservation of energy, and obtain the curve of temperature rising of its drive shaft. By contrasting with water-cooling system whether or not, we know that installing the cooling water pipe in rocker arm is one of the most significant ways to ensure the rocker arm to work properly.(2) Use Pro/E software to b uild the mechanical model of rocker arm, simulate its transient temperature field with ABAQUS software, and obtain the curve of temperature rise of rocker arm shell and drive gear, and analysis the rule of its temperature rise in different pivot angle, which acts as the known conditions of the subsequent steps.(3) Based on the result above, we simulate the thermal expansion deformation and coupled thermal- mechanical effect for rocker arm, and obtain the rule of stress and strain of each drive shaft of rocker arm shell, and the change of maximum stress and maximum strain in different pivot angle. By contrasting with the result in these two conditions, we know that the temperature is the main factor for the stress, and the load is the main factor for the displacement.The result can provide the theoretical foundation to make sure the rocker arm to work properly by controlling the temperature rise of the shell and adjusting the pivot angle and the cutting depth.
