Waer-soluble UV-cured technology was a green technology of environment. The novel Waer-soluble photothetiator 4-(2-hydroxydsxy methyl)benzoPhenone was synthesized in thes paPer.The intermediate 4-Methyl benzoPhone was synthesized from benzoyl chloride andtoluene by Frield-Crall reaction with catalyst. The process conditions were tested andthe optium process conditions were retested. The resultS indicated that the yield was78% and the purity of the product uP to 99%. lt provided the reliable technical data forthe industrial middle test.High purity intermediate 4-Bromomethyl benzophenone was preparated bybromination of 4-methyl benzophenone. The sodium ethylene glycol was preparated bythe reaction of ethylene glycol with sodiuxn methanol.The new comPound 4-(2-hydroxyethoxy methy1) benzophenone was syhthesizedby the reaction of 4-Bromomethyl benzophenone with sodium ethy1ene glycol. Theyield was 78%, and the purity of the new product was 95%. We analysized the GC-MS,IR, NMR of the new product and defined its smictUIe.We aPp1icated the new watersoluble photoinitiators in the UV-cured coating. WecomPared the properties of photoinitiators such as benzophenone (BP), 1l73 and Ciba2959. h was demonstrated that the UV-cured rate of the new product was slower thanBP and faster than 1l73 and Ciba 2959, and the odour as good as Ciba 2959, andobviously better than l 173 and BPThe created dot of the paPer was that we firstly synthesized the new comPound 4-(2-hydroxyethoxy methyl) benzophenone that was not reported in the reference anddefined its smictgre. Since it had excellellt aPplication and low cost of development, itcan be aPplicated and developed widely.
