Based on the liquid crystal polymer theory, two kinds of polyacrylates were synthesized by choosing biphenyl group as rigid nucleus of mesophase group and six methylene chain as flexible spacing group. An important chiral additive was synthesized by choosing L(-)~2-octanol as chiral group. Mixture was made of the additive and liquid crystalline polymer, which structure was identified by FTIT, 'II NMR, DSC and POM. The main points of this dissertation consist the following points:l.This dissertation has summarized basal theory and app.l ication prospect of ferroelectric liquid crystal, ferroelectric liquid crystal polymer and chiral additive. A kind of chiral additive of liquid crystal and two kinds of polyacrylates were designed here.2. Two series of intermediates?-hydroxybiphenyi-4'-carboxylic acid, L(-)-2-octanol and a kind of chiral additive of liquid crystal were synthesized. To improve the synthesized route and way of the intermediates, I have referred a lot of papers. I have attained a better result, especially the synthesi zed route of chiral additive, which has great application value.3. Two kinds of monomers were designed here, polymerization of monomers by choosing appropriate synthesize route. Influence of different polymeric conditions, such as initiator concentration -> monomer concentration,temperature,t ime> solvent, on polymerization of monomers were investigated in detail. The influence of compound structure on their liquid crystal characters was also studied.4.Mixture was made of chiral additive and liquid crystal polymer, which properties were studied. Whether the mixture has ferroelectricity has been discussed, which would establish some bases for the research and application of the liquid crystal display materials and nonlinear optical materials in future.
