In this paper, with the need of further development of Friction Welding technology and the theory of the Expert System(ES), for helping all of the people to share those information resource in this field, it was very necessary to establish an Expert System for Friction Welding. And for solving the management and expansion of the knowledge in this field, and for overcoming the limitation of the traditional ES in the knowledge expression and acquisition, In this paper, the technical advantage of the artificial neutral networks (ANN) which has self-learning ability and associational memory was used, and a mingle intelligence system was proposed through introducing the neutral networks to ES. Thereforce, the expert system based on the ANN was established, which provided a new approach for building the expert system for Friction Welding.This paper presents the orthogonal experiment to collect data, which was disposed in analysis of variance and was validated by the example. It assures the representability of the data.this system was designed through modularized structure and were established by C++Builder and by object oriented programming. It included a friendly interface, a database management module and a network's training and predicting module. Every module was called by each other through the dynamic link libraries, this is very favorable to maintain the system and improve the speed of the system. The user can expediently inquire and maintain the data of this database through the database management module. In the network's training and predicting module, the BP algorithm was discussed detailedly in the knowledge acquisition and the knowledge inference, and was programed by C language, the training and predicting of the network was accomplished by running the program, and it can implement the parameter optimization, This module provided the expansile interface for the database. The construction process of this expert system provided a means for the development of the ES in other fields.By testing the sample, the paper analysed the property of Friction Welding joint that was prognosticated by this system.
