In this thesis, silica and montmorillonite were modified and their respective nylon 6 nanocomposites were prepared by in situ polymerization. The structure and physical properties were studied by FT-IR, XRD, TEM, DSC, TG. The results indicated that esterification increased hydrolytic stability of silica and it was observed to possess improved dispersion behavior and adhesion with polymer. Modified montmorillonite was fabricated by various methods. The basal spacing of an modified montmorillonite was increased with the length of the alkyl group in an intercalation agent. The formation of the Y -crystalline of nylon 6 was enhanced by the modified montmorillonite. The nanocomposites possessed changed structure and properties with different contents of additive. Compared with nylon 6, the nanocomposites possessed desired property, such as increased thermal stability. |
