Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is an effective method of heavy oil refining. The atomizing performance of an atomizer has direct influence on the grade and yield of oil refining products. Two new-type atomizers, centrifugaf-airblast, effervescent atomizers,to be used in RFCC have been developed.First, centrifugal-airblast atomizer is designed using supersonic airblast technology. Four methods, fourteen combined models and three hundred operational points were investigated experimentally .The satisfied test data and results were achieved and it is shown that the supersonic atomizer has excellent spray performances under great flow rate with wide spray angle. It is shown that the atomizer has stble spray characteristics and is not sensitive to the facts of geometry and physics with simple and reliable structure. Second , a new-concept effervescent atomizer is designed and it's spray performance was investigated with special emphasis on the influence of gasinjector, the mixing chamber, the convergent angle geometries, liquid injection pressure and gas-liquid ratio etc. The experimental results will be helpful to understand the mechanism of effervescent atomization further. The optimum values for all key atomizer dimensions, including the number and size of the gas-injector holes, the size of the mixing chamber and the convergent angle have been found. The atomizing performance also depends on injection pressure and gas-liquid ratio. The principle for the design of effervescent atomizers has been determined.
