Based on the characteristic of GMAW arc spectrum, the method of the direct pool vision detection was proposed. For the imagines catches in the different welding parameters, the movement of the pool was studied by means of the slag drifted on face of the pool.The pool imagine was analyzed from gray value features, and the pool area and bond area was differentiated by raising the contrast, and then the pool and the geometrical parameters of the pool are obtained.When researching on the connection of the pool imagines and the weld, some pool imagines in the special parameters with the weld defects were manually obtained to analyze the character of it from the imagines.The model of the penetration was designed in two different ways and it was testified with experimental data at the same time. In the ways of the penetration control design thought, the blue print of fussy control was proposed and it would make fundamental preparations for the advanced control.
