To reduce the ablation of artillery and increase the endurance of it, transferred and nontransferred plasma arc are used to scan the chromium plating steel 40Cr sample. After the metallographic analysis, SEM analysis and measure of adhesive strength and hardness of the chromium coating and matrix, establish a model of the temperature distribution of sample while scaning with plasma arc, and conclude that after boundary strengthening with plasma arc ,by diffusion between chrome in chromium coating and Fe in matrix, structure of matrix coming into being martensitic phase transformation, phase transformation harden layer forms, microstructure of matrix improves, matrix hardness improves and the adhesive strength between chromium coating and matrix improves distinctly, boundary strengthening with non-transfered plasma arc is feasible, and is better than with transferred plasma arc.
