Two kinds of high oil-absorbing resins have been prepared by suspension polymerization, using styrene(St), BR and functional monomer as raw materials, divinylbenzene as the cross-linking agent, benzyl peroxide (BPO) as the initiator. The first one contains a partial physical crosslink, the second is modified by functional monomer. The effects of the raw material ingredient, the amount of the dispersing agent, and the amount of the initiator on oil absorbency and gel fraction were investigated, and the optimum conditions were obtained. The experimental results show that the oil absorption and retention is best of the second high oil-absorbing resins which were after-treated, their oil-absorption can be as high as 34.7g/g to trichloromethane, and 16.8g/g to toluene. The optimum recipe are as follows: mass ratio of styrene to functional monomer is 1 to 1. the amount of the initiator is 1.5% of monomer by weight, the amount of the cross-linking agent is 1.5% of monomer by weight.
