According to the peculiar character of waxy crude oil, the action mechanism of Pour Point Depressant (PPD) is generalized and investigated in this paper, and it is different in different growth period of wax crystal, which is closely related to the chemical constitution according to different type of PPD. The factors affecting the improvement effectiveness after adding PPD in crude oil transported in pipeline include the composition of crude oil, the chemical structure of PPD, the addition PPD treatment conditions, and the heat and shear history that crude oil goes through in pipeline, etc.. As far as the character of the crude oil transported in Beisantai-Wushihua pipeline is concerned, the paper has adopted rheology test and measurement and regarded pour point temperature and viscosity as indexes to analyze the flow ability of the added PPD oil to select the optimal PPD type, SYEP-1 has been selected as the optimal PPD type. And then evaluated its improving effect and stability. The Suhuofu formula, temperature lower speed formula and energy dissipation model (using equivalent diameter in it) have been used to calculate the modeling parameters and have a test on equipments in doors. The results have shown that this PPD can grantee the safety of transportation after stopping the two middle heating stations. The assay results of test on set have proved that this PPD can low the pour point and viscosity effectively and lead to stable effect. Obvious economical and social benefit can be achieved after adding PPD in crude oil transported in the pipeline instead of using heating transportation only. And the more transportation quantity is, the more economical benefit will be followed.
