Aliphatic polyesters have excellent biodegradability and very economical in use, therefore it is looked as one of the general acknowledged research directions of degradable materials. The paper introduces the synthesis method of aliphatic polyesters and the mechanism of the degradation. Firstly, high molecular poly L-lactide was synthesized through ring-opening polymerization. Poly(butylenes succinate) and poly(ethylene succinate) were synthesized through direct melt polycondensation. Then the polyesters were modified through co-polymerization with low molecular weight hydroxyl-terminated poly L-lactide or with poly(caprolactone)diol, TDI through chain extension to improve their properties of degradation and mechanics. Some physical properties and structure characterization of the polyesters synthesis were characterized with infrared absorption spectrum (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(H-NMR), DSC, X-ray diffraction analyses and TG/DTA, etc. And their degradability in different circumstance was studied. Results indicated that the modified poly-(butylenes succinate) have been improved in strength and degradability and have good thermal stability.
