With the development of the modern cutting technology, high speed milling has been used widely for its particular advantages. The selection of milling parameters and the prediction of milling results have already become important themes at present. As the main content of this thesis, the cutting force in high speed milling is investigated, in terms of the analytical modeling, the finite element simulation and experiments, which is of great importance for the research of high speed milling theory and the application of high speed milling technology.Under the Foundation for the Author of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation ( 200231 ) and the Scientific Research Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists of Shandong Province (02BS074), based on the study of high speed milling theory, the geometrical models and the cutting force models of the flat end milling cutter and ball end milling cutter are built at first. Then a finite element model of orthogonal cutting process is established on the basis of the thermal elasto-plastic theory and updated Lagrange's Formula and auto-remeshing technique. The model can display the change of cutting force in cutting process. The simulation curves of dynamic cutting forces in orthogonal cutting are obtained by changing the simulation parameters and the cutting parameters. The influences of cutting parameters on cutting force are investigated by analyzing the cutting force curves, and optimum cutting parameters are obtained. This thesis also designs two single factor experiments by changing axial depth of cut and feed speed respectively to acquire cutting force data which are then compared with the simulated dataso as to validate the FEM simulation model. An orthogonal experiment scheme is adopted in order to investigate cutting forces and do only fewer experiments. P20 and 45 steels are used in high speed milling with cemented carbide flat end milling cutter used on high speed CNC machining center. The dynamic cutting force curves are obtained and the cutting forces are compared among different workpiece materials and among different cutting parameters respectively. A prediction model of cutting force is built, and the significance test i s finished. The prediction model can predict cutting force in high speed milling.
