Phthalatic acid esters( PAEs ) is a kind of environmental hormone, containing the weaker estrogen composition, influencing the organism endocrine and causing sudden change. It can enter human body through breathing, diet and skin. PAEs is the main plasticizer in plastics industry and be applied to the manufactures of food wrappings, container, medical articles and people's leather ,etc, extensively. It can also be used as the agriculture chemical carrier, the mix pharmaceutical of the anthelmintic, cosmetics and spices, and the composition of the coating and lubricant. Because it has not formed the chemical bond between PAEs and plastic host.They just joined together with the hydrogen key and vander Waals force. It will be dissolved out in suitable organic solvent and cause pollution to the environment, living beings and food. The paper incIuds seven parts and carries on research to it:Chapter one introduced the physiological function, existence manner,harm and analytical methods of phthalatic acid esters, summarized the recent advance of analysis of PAEs in the world.Chapter two introduced the new development in thin layer chromatography technique and its coupling techniques with infrared (IR), surface enhanced raman spectroscopic (SERS) , mass spectrometry(MS) and so on. The applications of TLC in medicament, environment, biological sample, poison and food in recent five years are reviewed.Chapter three studied and established a simple method for the determination of four phthalates, namely dimethyl phthalate,diethyl phthalate, di-n-butyl phthalate and di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate in food-packaging bags by thin layer chromatography. The mixture of ethyl acetate -anhydrous ether-iso-octane (1:4:15) was used as developing agent on the TLC silica gel plate. The scanning waveleng was 275nm and and the reference wavelength was 340nm. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the four phthalates were 2.8%~3.5%. The recoveries of the four phthalates were79%~111%. The detection limits were 2.1ng for DMP, 2.4ng for DEP, 3.4ng for DBP and 4.0ng for DEHP. The method presented has the advantages of high precision, high sensitivity, small sample size, and simple pretreatment.Chapter four studied and established a method for simultaneous determination of five kinds of phthalates, namely dimethyl phthalate(DMP), diethyl phthalate(DEP), di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP), di-n-octyl phthalate(DOP) and di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate(DEHP) by thin layer chroma tography(TLC).
