2-Imidazolidinone was synthesized from urea and ethylenediamine. N-methylation of 2-imidazolidinone with dimethyl sulfate in the presence of an phase-transfer catalyst triethyl benzylammonium chloride gave N,N'-Dimethyl-2-Imidazolidinone (DMI) ,a dipolar aprotic solvent. The reaction conditions were improved. Compared with the literature value the yield of the product 2-Imidazolidinone was increased from 78~79% to 93%, the yield of DMI was increased from 68% to 70%, and the overall yield value of DMI was increased from 54% to 65%. The reaction mechanism of synthesizing 2-imidazolidinone was studied and the mechanism of alkylation in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst of synthesizing DMI was discussed. Other methylation methods were also discussed. . 2-Imidazolidinone and DMI were identified by GC-MS, IR and ~1HNMR, The contents of the products were determined by HPLC。...
