The cold-model experiment of the hydrogenation of anthroquinone in a three-phase fluidized bed was carried out when the catalyst particles of hydrogenation used in fixed bed was used as solid phase, the water as liquid phase and the air as gas-phase.The fluidized characteristic of the catalyst particles including five diameters in water was investigated in the liquid-solid fluidized bed. It was observed that there exist five kinds of fluidization states. The steady fluidized region was established. The expansion curve of the bed and the R-Z equation were used to determine the fluidized characteristic. The effect of the different diameters of catalyst particles, the mass of catalyst particles and different liquid viscosity on the fluidization behavior was studied.1) With increasing diameter of the particles, the range of the steady fluidized region broadens and the expansion index n decreases. For particle V, the expansion index (equals to 2.98) is the smallest, the correlative coefficient of its R-Z fitting curve (equals to 0.99838) is big. Therefore, the fluidized characteristic of the particle V close to perfect Particulate fluidization.2) With increasing the ratio of bed height to diameter, the expansion index of the particle V increases first, and then decreases and the fitted terminal velocity increases. The expansion index (equals to 3.00) is the smallest, when the ratio of bed height to diameter equals to 1.68.3) With increasing the viscosity of the liquid, the range of the liquid operating velocity and the terminal velocity decrease, the expansion index decrease.The characteristic of particle II , particle III, particle IV was investigated in gas-liquid-solid fluidized bed by the expansion curve under the different superficial liquid velocity and superficial gas velocity. The interactional rules of the diameter of particles, superficial liquid velocity and superficial gas velocity in the three-phase fluidized bed were obtained.The steady fluidized region of particle IV and particle V in the gas-liquid-solid fluidized bed was established. The bigger the diameter of the particle, the wider the steady fluidized region of gas-liquid-solid fluidized bed.The fluidized characteristic under different viscosity of the liquid is studied. The results show that with increasing the viscosity, the terminal velocity decreases and the expansion ratio increases under the same superficial gas velocity. With increasing the viscosity, under the same superficial liquid velocity, the expansion ratio increases. Therefore, the increasing of the viscosity is advantageous to the fluidization of the bed.
