Blade is seen as one key part of steam turbine. Capability and efficiency of Steam turbine depend on design and machining of blade surface. Blade is very difficulty to be manufactured because its material is stainless steel, and its surface is complex free surface. Belt grinding is an old and new manufacture method. With the development of CNC technique, belt grinding can manufacture all kinds of materials and complex surface now.At present, steam turbine blades are all grinded by handcraft of skilled workers at last working procedure in China. It's overload to workers, terrible in working environment, low in precision and efficiency. CNC belt grinding machines has been developed and used to grind blades abroad, but they're too expensive to purchase by domestic enterprises. Therefore, it's pressed for developing a sort of high precision and efficiency, economical CNC steam turbine blade belt grinding machine, using advanced process to substitute handwork grinding.Firstly, the characteristics of belt grinding on steam turbine blades are analyzed and researched, along shape and material of blades, and speciality of abrasive belt grinding. Based on analyzing of grinding movement on blades, the structural configuration of the machine tool is determined, the kinematic model of blade belt grinding is built, the whole structure of the tool and grinding head are designed. The key parts of grinding machine are analyzed in statics and modes, by using finite element analysis software-ANSYS, mechanics ability of the belt grinding machine is verified.Meeting manipulative functions of grinding motion of the machine tool, the control system and PLC programs are designed, built and debugged.In the end of this paper, the CNC steam turbine blade belt grinding machine is finished developing and commissioning, tested rationality of the structure of machine tool and functions of control system, verified ability and efficiency of belt grinding. The results of experiment show that the CNC steam turbine blade belt grinding machine can meet design orders, carry the expectant point.
