As primary comminution equipment, ball mill plays important role in varieties of industries, such as fire power plants, cement industry, minings, chemical industry and metallurgy industry, etc. Production efficiency of the whole processes in these industries often depends largely on the efficiency of ball mill. Thus considering the using foreground of ball mill in the industry of comminution, how to improve the efficiency of ball mill and reduce its power consumption is a subject worthy of study.Many researches at home and abroad have been made on the charge behaviour and useful power of ball mill. Research on the former is beneficial to find a reasonable status of ball mill by started with its movement, which provides reference for the choice and setting of ball mill' s operating parameters; while research on the latter is beneficial to research its relationship with operating parameters, which aims at reducing its power consumption and increasing its production efficiency. But considering from research methods, the ones combining experiments with theories or combining experiments with production have been widely used in the past. Because there are varieties of factors impacting on ball mill' s operating, too many assumptions are often made in theoretical analysis. But some of them are not entirely consistent with the actual situation, which causes study not in-depth enough on ball mill.In this paper, ball millΦ1.5×3.0m is chose as the research object, and PFC3D software is used, and then research on charge operating parameters of ball mill is carried out by using numerical simulation method of discrete element.On the basic of relative discrete element theory, the discrete element model for ball millΦ1.5×3.0m is established, and validity of the model on calculation of ball mill' s useful power is validated. Critical rotation rates for both cast falling and pour falling of ball mill, which is with lining and lifter, are gained by simulation of ball mill' s charge behavior. This provides reference for seeking the perfect charge behavior status of ball mill from rotation rate. Influence of some important charge operating parameters on charge behavior rule and useful power is mainly researched and analyzed in the paper, that is, rotation rates of ball mill, fill levels and size of charge. Thus some interrelated rule of the charge fill levels and rotation rates of ball mill' s influence on its useful power. It is found in this paper, that what causes better comminution effect is the situation combined different charge fill levels with different rotation rates of ball mill. Thus analyzed from both charge behavior and useful power of ball mill, the better combination of charge fill levels and rotation rates of ball millΦ1.5×3.0m is found, which provides reference for setting ball mill' s operating parameters according to the real operating status.Reference is provided in this paper for research and analysis of charge behavior and setting of ball mill' s operating parameters, as well as significance for related design and research work on ball mill.
