Metal-organic coordination polymers, a new kind of molecule materials, have attracted much more attentions for their flexible tailoring, various topologies and promising applications in ion-exchange, molecular recognition, gas storage and so on.. The geometric configuration of ligand and the coordination tendency of metal cation should be considered when constructing the coordination polymers. In this paper, we designed and synthesized three N-heterocyclic ligands, such as 1,4-bis(2-pyridylmethoxy)benzene (L1),1,4-bis(3-pyridylmethoxy)benzene (L2),1,4-bis(4-pyridylmethoxy)benzene (L3), which possessing the N atom with strong coordinated ability. This kind of flexible organic ligand can coordinate with metal by its two terminal N atoms, and extend indefinitely to construct polymer like chain. We use the above three ligands to synthesis three metal complexes by the usual solvent evaporation method, characterize them by IR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. It has been confirmed that the ligands link 1D acetate mercury chains into 2D layer construction in complex HgL1; CoL2 and CuL2 are isomorphous, in which the ligands bridge the metal atoms into 1D lock-like chains. Above three complexes generate further 3D network construction by intermolecular hydrogen bonding andπ-πaromatic packing interaction.
