Yttrium molecularly imprinted polymers (Y(Ⅲ)-IIPs) were synthesized by the molecular imprinting technology.and A Ion-selective electrode (ISE) was designed by dispersing the yttrium (III) IIP particles in Polyvinyl chloride(PVC) matrix, In this paper, the structure of Y(Ⅲ)-IIPs was characterized , the synthesis conditions , the adsorption properties and selective recognition ,and the Nernstian response for yttrium(III)of the Ion-selective electrode were were investigated in detail. We obtained some creative results, which were outlined as follows:(1) A novel type of template molecularly imprinted(MIP) was prepared by bulk polymerization Using yttrium(Ⅲ) ion acetylacetone complex as template, 4-vinylpyridine as the functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) as the crosslinker. the structure of Y(Ⅲ)-IIPs was characterized with scanning electronic microscope, and the synthesis conditions of Y(Ⅲ) -IIPs, the adsorption properties and selective recognition of Y(Ⅲ)-IIPs for Yttrium were also studied. The obtained results show that:Sorption equilibrium time was achieved in 60 min .The maxiumum sorption of yttrium (Ⅲ) imprinting polymer was about 12.4mg/g.when the Y(Ⅲ)-MIP were used repeatedly ,their adsorption capacity was feasibility. the selectively adsorbed amount of Y(Ⅲ) ions on Y(Ⅲ)-MIP is higher than all other studied ions.(2) sodium tetraphenyl borate, for the active substance, 2-nitrophenyloctyl ether as plasticizers, Polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for the electrode support of the development of a new yttrium(III) selective electrode. The sensor PVA exhibited the better performance, presenting fast Nernstian response for yttrium(III) over a wide concentration range (4.0×10-2to 7.5×10-7) with a slope of 29.8mV per decade. The limit of detection was 5×10-7. This sensor offers high selectivity compared to conventional chemical sensors towards yttrium(III) with respect to several alkali, alkaline earth andtransition metal ions as the selectivity is 10–100-fold better. The sensor was used for determination of yttrium(III) by potentiometric(EDTA) titration and has been successfully for the determination of yttrium in mental sample.
