Mechanical polishing process of large surface is wildly used in finish machining of porcelain stoneware tiles, stones and glass ware. Because of the complicated effect factors of polishing quality, the industrial polishing process and machanism usually base on trial and error, or on experience obtained from industry, and the theory of polishing is absent. All of these lead inefficiency and high re-polishing rate. In order to realize the effect factors of the polishing quality well and improve the efficiency, the polishing process of large tiles was studied in this paper. The properties of the kinematics character were realized and the simulation model of uniformity was established. By simulation and trial, the rules between polishing quality and process parameters were studied. So the study of this dissertation is of great significance to improve efficiency and to provide valuable scientific basis.In this paper, the kinematics model was established based on analysis of mechanical polishing motion at first. The kinematics character of abrasives and polishing head were studied from the trajectory and the scratching speed aspects. And the reason of non- uniformity was discussed. Macro kinematics of the polishing lines was studied to obtain optimized parameter matching.The parameter described uniformity was led-in. A uniformity model was obtained based on Preston equation, which was used to simulated in computer. After firming simulation parameters, the distributions of removal valves of a polishing head or two polishing heads were simulated. The results of trial and simulation indicated that the distribution of removal valves and uniformity could be attributed by the model.The point effects of polishing quality were obtained. Take the polishing process of tile as the object of studying to analysis the relationships between polishing quality and applied pressure, rotational speed, forward speed, frequency of the lateral oscillation, trajectory of lateral, oscillation by simulation and trial, which can provide a basis for optimization of parameters.
