With the improvement of product performance and accuracy of machining, WEDM has increasingly played an important role in the field of mechanical machining. As the core of the WEDM machine, the performance of the CNC system decides process quality and process stability of the machine directly. Meanwhile, the research and development of LS-WEDM CNC system is still in thestarting stage of our country. Although there is some disparity in structure, technology and numerical control technology compared with foreign LS-WEDM machine, our country's WEDM machine is suitable to apply to process the parts or moulds which have medium accuracy and surface roughness. It is of great importance to improve the performance of WEDM machine to accelerate the development of China's manufacturing industry.NC system, Servo-control system and the mainframe of machine are the three main component part of NC machine.This three part of WEDM machine are analysed and improved in the paper:(1) The paper presents a new method of arc interpolation basted on utilizing a recurrence formula, aim at the two shortcomings of this method listed in present literatures. The computing time can be shortened and the interpolation accuracy can be increased by using this method.(2) The system uses the controlling model of PC and motion control card.The host computer carries out non-real-time controlling and the slave-computer carries out real-time numerical control function. The control system is developed by VC++6.0 in the Windows system. The function module includes post processing, process positioning module and so on. The means of rotating at random angle and it,s extended function are analysed in the paper.(3) On the base that summarizing the study of multiple cut on HS-WEDM and based the production exploitation needs, the basic conditions on multi-cutting are analyzed and researched, and the necessary theory discussion and the experiments are carried out. It is efficient and effective in practical applications.(4) Recognition of machining status for rotary EDM was analyzed and the different methods for servo control system were diseussed. According to above works,a servo control system for WEDM machine was finally established.
