This task comes from a sub-program"Study of parameter optimization for high-speed dilling process of aviation Carbon fiber reinforced plastics(CFRP)", belonging to National Science and Technology support program of the Department of Science and Technology. As a part of this sub-program, our task aims to provide some good foundational data and method of analysis to reduce the abrasion of drill and improve the surface roughness of the workpiece for the optimization of technical parameters in high-speed dilling process of CFRP.The research of theory and application of CFRP is facing the urgent problem of improving the experiments and the data processing methods for high speed drilling CFRP so that correct experience formulas can be obtained. In view of this, by using horniness alloy twist drill and horniness alloy hollow drill withφ=5.0 mm, some experimental investigations of high speed drilling CFRP have been carried out. Fifteen data corresponding to the rotate speed n=(10000,12000,14000,16000 and 18000) r/min and feeding speed vf=(50,80 and 120) mm/min have been obtained for axial force, torque and temperature, respectively. These data are then be processed with binary nonlinear Regression Analysis to give the nonlinear experiential formula of axial force, torque and temperature, with two self-variables n and vf for two kinds of drills and their RMSE; These experiential formula are then be transferred to the forms with other two self-variables n and feeding quantity f; Then fixing any one of the two variables, we obtained a number of formulas with single self-variable, from which some important experiential laws expressed by language are obtained. We also compared the results of one drill with those of the other and pointed out the similarities and differences. These results provide the solid foundation for to reduce the abrasion of drill and improve the surface roughness of the workpiece for the parameter optimization in high speed drilling CFRP, and inspire the improvement of the oretical modles.Besides, from five pictures of hollows obtained with different rotate speeds, we see some layerlines in the surfaces of the hollow-walls and some cracks and disfigurements at the entries of hollows. However the situation are far better then that of the low speed dilling and the further research-is open to our research group.
