Power generation companies become market-oriented following with the electric power industrial reform including separation of plant and grid as well as electricity price bidding. In order to survive and develop, and improve competitive ability, Yunnan Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd. sets up Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Centralized Control Centre (hereinafter referred to as the Centralized Control Center) as the production operation and management department to monitoring each owned hydropower station along Lancang River. Its set-up satisfies the requirement of centralized control and management as well as joint optimized dispatching for power generation company. In order to assure safe and stable operation of the control centre, carry out remote centralized control of hydropower station, a safe reliable communication system is needed to assure reliable transmission of data from stations to the control centre.The fundamental purpose of the communication system shall satisfy the requirement of company development and power generation and service. The principle of the system shall be consistent with national situation as well as characteristic of advanced and reasonable, economical and practical, and reliable quality. Considering conditions of the whole grid, the communication system shall be installed considering comprehensive requirement of speech channel, dispatch automation, computer data, image, relay protection, safe and stable control device and etc. This paper researches communication network program connecting control centre and each hydropower station along Lancang River according to actual situation of Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Centralized Control Centre. Main contents are as follows:Analyzing communication demands between the Centralized Control Centre and each owned station, putting forward requirement of communication bandwidth.Detail discussing and comparing construction scheme of communication channel from the Centralized Control Centre to stations. Putting forward recommended scheme as reference for decision made by leader. Putting forward technical scheme of network construction of centralized control data according to requirement of various communication operations. The technical scheme will be technical standard and basis for network construction and distribution of centralized control data in future. Through detailed research of abovementioned content, this paper put forward that Lancang Hydropower Company shall adopt self-building communication channel method to construct its own communication transmission system. As shown in various requirement analyses for communication business, data business will take more proportion in future. So the company's future communication system shall build in the basis of network.This paper concluded that based on the own transmission system, it should built dispatching data network and comprehensive business data network to satisfy reliable transmission of different communication business between the company and the stations. The proposed scheme is built upon the latest MSTP transmission system, MPLS VPN networking technology instead of the dedicated below 2M low speed transmission system (DDN,. FR etc)point to point communication mode widely used by the electric power industry. Use of networking ensures stable transmission of all sorts of communication. It prevent in adaptation malady of rapid development of communication business in future caused by different independent communication transmission systems which make networks in access layer seriously superimposed, and the configuration become more complex and disordered. This scheme uses advanced technology and reasonable network arrangement. It also has reference meaning for other basin power stations'communication network construction.
