As a continuous transportation system, the belt conveyor system has been widely used in metallurgical, coal, mining, chemical, power, ports and other industries.During continuous operation period of conveyor belt, the phenomenon such as belt creeps, broken belt, tearing, running deviation, material heaps would happen, which result in serious consequences. In order to improve the reliability many types of equipments have been used to protcet belt belt conveyor. As the equipments are independent, they couldn't give comprehensive and intelligence judgment. Then, incorrect shutdown or accident happens and great economic losses are caused. The safety and reliability of system can be improved by comprehensive information, intelligence judge methods and centralized control, and the production efficiency would be improved.In this paper, all the causes and detection ways of belt conveyor are simultaneously analyzed. The control system has been designed. Temperature sensors, material level sensors, pulling to one side sensors and portrait sensors are selected respectively by comparing the performance of sensors.The communication system which complemented bye ways of RS485 bus between master and slave system is designed.Second, it analyzes the characteristics and structure of FPGA devices, the device of choice and complete development environment and tools related to the selection, the system describes the design of complex FPGA design, FPGA design flow described in detail, outlining the use of QuartusⅡand VHDL language, Modelsim simulation combined with the FPGA development process.Finally,on the QuartusⅡsoftware platform, it does logical compile, logic synthesis, logic optimization and simulation test automatically to the design document, which is obtained using hardware description language VHDL as description method. Contains the detailed design of the input and output units, storage unit and control unit from the Master and slave system has been designed. After repeated simulation test and modify, I finalized the design of the system, and that all its functions have met the design requirements.In addition, the system is of some reference significance to other projicts and there is a bright market for the successfully developed intellifent instrument.
