This paper presented several types of bus differential protection in Hang Zhou Electric Power Bureau and the paper was mainly about configuration and maintenance. Some abnormal instances and the improvement about bus differential relay were also brought forward in this paper.A large number of information about bus differential protection had been referred to. On the basis of several operation instances in substation and some improper instances in commissioning, routine testing and maintenance the paper focused on the following questions:1) The paper introduced the type of substation and the electrical main connection diagram of substation. Priority was given to 500 kV and 220 kV substation electrical main connection diagram of Hang Zhou Electric Power Bureau. And the paper also gave the configuration of bus protection in substation.2) The paper introduced the application of bus differential protection. And the paper presented the bus protection from the indispensability of bus protection, the configuration and the requirements of bus protection, the range of bus protection, the fault type of bus and the cooperation with other protection support for substation.3) The paper presented the class of bus protection according to different configuration. And the paper presented the working principles, the blocking measure, the failure protection and the bus charge protection of bus protection.4) Several improper operation instances of bus protection were brought forward in this paper. The paper emphasized the improvement of bus differential relay REB103 security application and the bus fault about 220kV X substation which resulted in the whole bus stopped working. Fault Analysis and Counter-measures about bus protection in Y substation. The application of splitting switch on RCS-915 bus differential protection under different operating mode of use.
