This M.S.Degree focused on the investigation of steroidal glycosides in the ethyl acetate fraction of an 80% ethyl alcohol extract of the plant of Ornithogalum thyrsoides, which was planted by Chinese Academy Forestry. By using various chromatographic techniques, fourteen compounds were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic and chemical methods. The names and structures of the compounds are listed in Table 1 and Figure 1, including six cholestane glycosides (1-6), three spirostanol glycosides, three flavanones,β-daucosterol andβ-sitosterol. Among them, compounds 1-7 were new compounds. It is the first time for compound 8 to be isolated as naturally occurring product. The primary pharmacological experiments indicated that the steroidal glycosides (1-9) had no significant cytotoxic activity against five tumor cell lines, such as HCT-8, Bel-7402, BGC-823, A549 and A2780.
