Jacob Marschak, a pioneer of Information Economics, firstly proposed the concept of Economics of Language in 1965. Then many scholars began to study the economic features of language from their own research fields. Achievements of this cross-disciplinary study have been increasing gradually in the past decades.With the rapid development of technology and network, cyber language, a new type of language phenomenon, emerged in cyber space. The strong vitality and fast development of cyber language attracted many scholars'attention. Researches on cyber language from different perspectives came out one after the other.So far, studies on Economics of Language in and abroad mainly focus on language's influence on income, language and economy development, market of language related products and services, cost and benefit of language's programming and choice and so on. Researches on cyber language are mainly from the perspectives of lexicon, syntax and the like. The present thesis analyzes the economic features of cyber language through Economics of Language by adopting several economic principles. This cross-disciplinary research, analysis on cyber language from Economics of Language, is of certain value and significance.Cyber language roots in but differs from traditional language. Compared with traditional language, cyber language shows brighter economic features. The present thesis is composed of five chapters. Chapter one gives the objective and significance of the research and how the present thesis is going to be organized. In chapter two, the birth and development of Economics of Language and cyber language is reviewed. Meanwhile, the present researches on both topics are also introduced. Chapter three and chapter four are the main part of the present thesis. Chapter three examines the economic principles followed by cyber language. Dynamic development of cyber language is the result of convergence; most formation of cyber language follows the Principle and Least Effort, and exceptions also exist; the principle of equilibrium is well embodied in the spread of cyber language. Chapter four offers the interaction between economy and cyber language. The generation of cyber language is the result of the rapid development of economy. Meanwhile, economic prosperity speeds up further development of cyber language. On the other hand, cyber language also reacts on economy. The present thesis analyzed the economic features of cyber language from the elements of cost, utility, benefit and value. Chapter five gives the summary and limitations of the research. Besides, suggestions of further studies on this topic are put forward.
