A Research On Piblic Sculpture In Wuxi Grand Canal Area

he prosperity of Grand Canal which travels across Wuxi has already been degenerated, however, it is never into silence. Now days, with the trend of "inscription" of Grand Canal, the ancient river has welcomed its new development and opportunity, and its cultural value has been greatly enhanced.the research of this paper on the public sculpture of Wuxi Grand Canal is not merely limited in the subject of sculpture, however, it is an integration of different subjects of Art, History, Urban planning and sociology. It mainly adopted an integrated approach and used research methods and principles of various subjects to study the public sculpture of ancient Grand Canal in order to encourage the public participation and interaction, increase public recognition and ownership of spaces, stir and awaken the history and culture of Grand Canal in people's memory, establish the cultural brand of Grand Canal in Wuxi, explore the urban regional historical context and finally profoundly reflect the cultural connotation of the canal wholly "from the surface to inside". The entire paper consists of three parts:The first,second and first half of the third chapter mainly confirms the research context and research scope, makes the relevant conceptual definition and makes an early collection and arrangement of the text data.The second half of Chapterâ…¢and Chapterâ…£made an objective analysis and comparison of the public sculptures of ancient canals in the cities of Hangzhou,Wuxi and Huaian through the ways of site visit and investigation in order to explore the perspective and direction of development of the entire canal's public sculpture and furthermore deepen the overall impression of the whole Grand Canal's public sculpture. Meanwhile, this paper especially discussed the individual current situation and exiting problem of the Grand Canal in Wuxi and understood the public aspiration through the form of public questionnaire in order to laid a foundation for the design of Grand Canal's public sculpture.In the Chapterâ…¤,if the front part is to ask question and analyze problems, then the Chapterâ…¤will be the chapter to solve those problems. According to the data collected in the early time and the problems discovered in the site visit, we can remedy and propose some recommendations and approaches.
