William Golding is a very influential writer in British literature in 20th century. In 1983, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his novel Lord of the Flies. Although Lord of the Flies has been criticized, as a literary classic in 19th century, its position in the history of literature is undoubted.Through the experiences of a group of boys stuck on a deserted island, humanity and the nature of world have been exposed. The theme of Lord of the Flies is fall, warning and salvation for the reason that Golding thinks that man is inherently evil, under certain circumstances, this evil side emerges overwhelmingly; therefore, the fall is doomed to happen. Lord of the Flies reveals Golding as a writer who shows great concerns for the destiny of human beings. By this novel, Golding not only reveals man's evil nature, but also warns people the necessity and urgency of overcoming evilness and depravity. Only in this way can human beings gain salvation.Using sociological knowledge, this thesis discusses the nature of human in Lord of the Flies from the perspective of Christian Culture. According to the analysis, it can be found that the characters of Lord of the Flies are inherently evil, but they still have the ability to be good. As they have lost self-discipline, they degenerate. The degeneration process and its consequences warn that human beings, inherently evil, should have self-control to prevent darkness in the heart from arousing tragic consequences. But the most important thing is that people should understand themselves and history better, pay close attention to human existence and take serious consideration of the future. This thesis intends to interpret Lord of the Flies mainly from three aspects:The first one is by describing the landscape of the island to reveal the existence of three kinds of harmonies, namely the harmony between men and God, the harmony among human beings and the harmony between men and nature. According to these three harmonies, it can be inferred that the deserted island is the reflection of the Garden of Eden. The second part analyzes Simon's behaviors and thoughts, which show his love and care for the puniness, his detached resistance against outside temptation and dedication spirit from the beginning to the end. Besides that, he is like the prophet first discerning the beast just in human's mind, all of which shows the similarities between Simon and Jesus. It can be seen that Simon has branded the novel Christian culture. At last, salvation as the theme of this novel is revealed through the analysis of characters that human with evil nature still can become good. At the same time, what's proved by Golding's review upon himself and his novel, is that the triumph of Christian culture is a necessary spiritual security for human beings on the road of progress.
