| As an indispensable part of the language system, fuzzy language plays an important role in literary works for it is one of the main parts of aesthetic effects and functions of literary works. The translation of fuzzy language is never simple transformation of language but an aesthetic experience. Study interest of translators has long been aroused by the fuzzy beauty of literary works. Then Reception Aesthetics is introduced in this thesis to better illustrate the translation of fuzzy language for better reproduction of the fuzzy beauty in the translation.In the ever-growing literary research in 20th century, reception aesthetics, as a new and influential methodology in literary theories, marks a shift in concern from the author and the work to the text-reader relationship in literary criticism. According to it, readers'reaction proves a criterion for the quality and value of a literary work. In the process of the production of a literary text, the author should consider the readers' social experience, aesthetic tendency and receptive ability etc., which constitute the readers'"horizon of expectations".In addition, in Hong Lou Meng, the greatest novel in Chinese literature, there are fuzzy phenomena which establish a bridge between the creative consciousness of the work and the readers'receptive consciousness. It is these qualities that need the readers to concretize according to their own understanding and ideas. Likewise, in the process of translating fuzzy language, the translator, as the reader of the source text and the writer of the target text, must attach great importance to the target readers'reception and reaction to make his own understanding best meet the target readers'"horizon of expectations", and thus to achieve the fusion of horizons of the writer and the text.Based on those mentioned above, this thesis offers a brief introduction to the definition and the causes of fuzzy language, linguistic fuzzy phenomena in Hong Lou Meng and its aesthetic effects. Then, fuzzy language and its beauty in the translation are further explained from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics, and, based on the analysis of fuzzy language uses in English versions of Hong Lou Meng. Aesthetic principle for literary translation with the focus on three prerequisites and some specific methods is also suggested by the author in the thesis. In the final part, conclusion is drawn that Reception Aesthetics offers a new angle for both the study of fuzzy language and the translation studies. |
