Meaning Theory And Its Contemporary Developing Trend Research

Since Chinese and western people began their research on the meaning problem two thousand years ago, philosophers and logicians had put forward a lot of valuable theories. Many classical theories of meaning had arisen after the linguistic turn of Western philosophy. The Referential theory, Idealism theory, Behavior theory, positivism theory and truth-conditional theory all have significant influence. In the "post-analytic philosophy era", meaning problem is still a concern of us, and the study of it begins to show a trend of developing in a multi-dimensional way. The pragmatic turn within Anglo-American linguistic philosophy has become an important research orientation of contemporary meaning theory, In addition, continental philosophy also began to focus on it, which apply hermeneutics, existentialism and other theories on meaning theory research, making the research of meaning theory goes further in a multi-dimensional way such as pragmatic analysis, hermeneutics, existentialism and so on.This paper focus on the contemporary developing trend of meaning theory, discuss the following three aspects:First of all, the historical background of meaning theory. This part carried out an detailed analysis of the historical and academic background of meaning theory, including: the philosophical origins of the research of meaning theory, the summarized interpretation of the concept of meaning in different theories, the core position of meaning theory in the "linguistic turn".Secondly, the dominant meaning theory of the analytic philosophy era". This part elaborated the basic content of five different meaning theories, analyzed the importance and limitations of them respectively, and pointed the necessity of further development of meaning theory and development trends of it. Finally, contemporary developing trend of meaning theory, which is the research focus of this article at the same time. This part focuses on displaying some theories of the studies of pragmatic, and the hermeneutical changing of meaning theory, which set phenomenology as the starting point. Then the integration part of both of them will be compared to explore the future development trend of meaning theory—contextualized research trend.In short, the meaning theory and its contemporary developing trend have important significance to us. Systematic analysis will help us to figure out the inner logic of the development of meaning theory, grasp the essence of"meaning"; from the practical point of view, the multidimensional investigation of these questions about meaning will contribute to make communication activities more smoothly.
