| With the boom of international tourism, the C-E translation of tourism materials is experiencing unprecedented and rapid development. Differences in language and culture between China and Western countries make up the most difficult part in translation. The present-day situation of tourism translation in China is far from satisfactory, which has negative influence on the promotion of tourism industry and hinders the dissemination of splendid Chinese culture. In view to this, an analysis of tourism translation errors is done systematically by the author in this thesis. This thesis is an attempt to apply skopos theory into the C-E translation of tourism texts, exploring the functions of tourism texts and the skopos of tourism translation. The skopos of tourism translation are as follows: to induce overseas tourists to go on a tour in scenic spots, to offer readers important information about tourist attractions and services, and to spread Chinese culture by catering to tourits' desire to seek otherness. On the basis of a functional analysis of tourism texts and its classification, this thesis brings forward two principles in tourism translation: reader-oriented principle and Chinese culture transmission principle. The reader-oriented principle takes precedence over Chinese culture transmission principle. Translators should understand the essence and information of the ST, combine readers' cultural context and the writer's original intention, and choose the most appropriate translation strategy to fulfill the intended function of the translation in the target text. In addition to common translation strategy and methods, transliteration plus explanation, adaptation, deletion, analogy and annotation are all applicable to C-E translation of tourism texts. |
