Translatology is a new discipline which needs to draw on the findings and theories of other related disciplines in order to develop formalize its own methods. In the thesis the concept of hermeneutics is reviewed, the similarities and differences between philosophical hermeneutics and other translatology are briefly examined, and the research as and theories relevant to translation studies as well as research methods are discussed. In part one, introduction part, the approaches to translation studies are classified. In chapter 4, case study part from perspective of philosophical hermeneutics and the aesthetics of reception,we may enjoy the beauty of translated works, the fusion of horizons. In Chapter 1,Gadamer's hermeneutic thoughts as well as Habermas's main points have been introduced. In this chapter, we discuss the intrinsic correlations among hermeneutics and the aesthetics of reception in translation studies. In Chapter 2, the definition of the text and its features are described. In this chapter, the conception of the text; the relationship between the openness of the text; the gaps and indeterminacies of the text are discussed. In Chapter 3, we discussed the essence of translation. We pay much importance on the influence of Gadamer'thoughts upon translation.By application of Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics, notion of the historicity of understanding, effective history, the fusion of horizons, the translated works should be the outcome of collaboration between translator and the original works. Far beyond being a merely repeat, the translated works should be regard as an invention one. Thereby we come to the most important conclusion of this thesis:the translated works as outcome of literary translation should no longer be considered as by products of original works. As an independent literary phenomenon, it should have the same position as other original works in the literary tradition of target nations.Chapter 4,we discuss the "degree" that should be managed in literary translation.Though the interpretation is the soul of the literary translation, without which the literary translation is impossible, the translator can not interpret the literary text as he pleases; he is required to control his interpretation to an assumed degree. This point of view, in our mind of eyes, is compatible with the view of Fu Lei's "resemblance in essence"(神似),Qian Zhongshu's "essentially conceptual selfsameness"(化境)and Nida's "dynamic equivalence"(动态对等);The English translation version being used in this paper are taken from Yang Xianyi'sA Dream of Red Mansion. From Yang's translation,we may enjoy the beauty of "resemblance in essence", the "beauty of dynamic equivalence" and the beauty of "essentially conceptual selfsameness" and the "fusion of horizons."From the thoughts of hermeneutists on translation we can see a reciprocal relationship between hermeneutics and translation studies:on the one hand, the findings in translation studies lend strong empirical support to hermeneutics while, on the other hand, hermeneutics can provide abundant theoretical basis for translation studies. This intimate relationship between the two fields has given rise to wide application of hermeneutic thoughts to translation studies, which in turn has led to the establishment of the hermeneutic approach. Finally, based on an analysis of the hermeneutic approach to translation, a summary of the achievements and problems of the hermeneutic approach is given, on the basis of which we intend to further explore into translation by applying some of the basic principles of philosophical hermeneutics and the aesthetics of reception.
