Malignant tumor has been the second reason that causes people to death, especially to the elderly. In some countries it has been the first reason. People who die of digestive tract tumors stand 44.2 percent of people who die of tumors. With the increasing of the world population, how to improve the people in tumors' survival time and their life quality has been the most important duty to medical workers all over the world. Today, surgical operation is still the first choice to treat the digestive tract tumor. There are some other methods including chemical therapy, radical therapy, immuno-therapy and Chinese herbs to heal tumor. How to increase the tumor recession rate and security during the operation, how to improve the patients' rehabilitation, and their five-year survival rate has been one of the most challengable issue in perioperative management.Under the direct of professor Li, we make this deep and broad study in this area with the method of integrated medicine of western medicine and Chinese medicine. Trough the recent data we can draw a conclusion that integrated management during perioperative period has great advantages over simple western medicine, this method should be extended. This paper including two parts, the first part is the literature review and the second is clinic research. In the reviews, first, we make clear of the boundary of the old man and the definition of the geriatric surgery. Second, we review the epidemiology data of the digestive tumor. Third, we expound the risk of geriatric surgery during the perioperative period after we reviewed the physiology of the old man. We also retrospect the origin and its significance of the perioperative management. At last we discussed the points of the management of integrated medicine during perioperative period. In clinic parts, we make a study on the patients with digestive tract tumor in the elderly of our hospital during the perioperative period. Mainly observed four sides: the rehabilitation of intestine function, enteral nutrition, Chinese herb atomized inhale with ultrasonic and Chinese herbs' use coordinated with chemical therapy. The results of this study are as follows:1. Tongfutang can obviously decrease the time of exsufflation and egestion and promote the rehabilitation of intestine.2. Patient who were given enteral nutrition got a better whole condition than those who were not given .3. Chinese herb xingfeiwuhuasan can improve the respirary function and prevent the happen of pneumonia.4. Shenqifuzheng injection can protect the blood cells while patients are under chemical therapy and increases the immunity. We also discussed some of the other questions about our tissue, such as the assessment of the old man's performance status before operation, geriatric surgery and ICU monitoring, the treatment of other diseases before operation, Chinese herbs used in anti-infections, and so on.Through this study, we find the prospect of integrated management of western medicine and Chinese medicine during perioperative period, and wish the insistent study can be continued.
