| Objective: To study the relationship between the pial blood supply to the meningiomas and the formation of peritumoral edema. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 60 patients with primary intracranial meningiomas at different locations who were treated at our neurosurgy department covering the period from 1994 to 2002. All the patients were treated surgically and the diagnosis of the meningiomas were confirmed by postoperative pathology. Computed tomography and angiography were performed in all patients preoperatively. The vascular supply and the location of peritumoral edema were recorded according to evaluation of the angiograms and CT data respectively. And then weintegrated and analyzed the spatial relationship of the two. Results: Statistical analysis (X2 Test) demonstrated that the peritumoral edema was significantly related to the pial blood supply as well as the location of pial blush(P=0.000). Conclusions: Pial blood supply may have an important role in development of the meningioma peritumoral edema. |
