Objective. To evaluate the significance of hyaluronidase in infiltration, metastasis and prognosis of breast cancer through the Expression of hyaluronidase, vascular endothelial growth facter, matrix metalloproteninase-9, cathepsin-D in human breast cancer cell lines and compare it with Estrogen receptor. Methods. Cell culture technique, enzyme linked sorbent assay (ELSA) and immunohistochemical staining were employed to determine the expression of hyaluronidase, vascular endothelial growth factor, matrix metalloproteinase-9 and cathepsine-D in ten human breast cancer cell lines, respectively. Results. The expression levels of Hyaluronidase in the ten cell lines varied significantly, with low expression in ER positive cell lines and high in ER negative ones(P<0.01,t=0.002). The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor, matrix metalloproteinase-9 and cathepsine-D was observed significantly stronger in the cell lines showing higher Hyaluronidase lever than those expressing lower Hyaluronidase lever (P<0.05). Conclusions. Hyalaronidase may play a role in infiltration, metatasis and prognosis of brenst cancer.
