Objective To establish a transplanted tibia neoplasm model in rabbits and observe its biological features and the changes of TSGF.Methods VX2 tumor grafts were transplanted into the medullary canal of rabbits tibiae. To observe the biological features and the metastases in different time and 2 to 3 weeks after transplantation and inspect TSGF . Results The orthotopic tumor growth rate was 100%.Tumor grew in the medullary canal within 1 to 2 weeks after local transplantation; extended to the soft tissues in 2 to 3 weeks. Lung and kidney metastases appeared in 3 - 4 and 4-5 weeks respectively. 7-8weeks all organs had metastases. The average survival time was 7-8 weeks. At last rabbits died of the extensive metastases.Conclusions This model had a high success rate and a steady biological feature. The pattern of metastases was similar to that of the human bone neoplasm, so it served as a good animal model for the study of bone neoplasm . X-ray and TSGF could inspect the tumor survivals.
