A. INTRODUCTIONChronic rhinitis is the nonspecific inflammation of the nasal mucosa or its submucous layer. Its main symptoms include persistent or intermittent nasal obstruction with profuse discharges, Clinically, the disease falls into two types: chronic simple rhinitis and chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. The disease may occur in all ages, without marked different in sex. Main Points of Diagnosis for Chronic Simple Rhinitis(1) Nasal obstruction is intermittent or alternative. Generally nasal obstruction abates or disappears in the daytime or after physical exercises; nasal obstruction aggravates in the case of prolonged sitting at night and fatigue as well as in the environment with cold turbid air or after drinking; in the case of latericumbent position, severe nasal obstruction occurs in the lower side of the nasal cavity mild nasal obstruction appears in the upper side of the nasal cavity. Nasal discharge is often muciform and semitransparent. Rhinophonia of nasal obstruction may exist when the patient speaks.(2) Local examination: Nasal mucosa is swollen, especially in the inferior nasal concha. Secretion of the nasal cavity lies in the nasal floor, inferior nasal meatus or common nasal meatus. Palpation with a probe shows the concha is soft and elastic. The indentation will appear when the nasal concha is pressed by the probe and the indentation will vanish when the probe is withdrawn.B. OBJECTIVE(1) Apply Bi-Tong-Ling concentrate cum Bi-Min-Gan capsule to treat Singapore Chronic Simple Rhinitis cases. (2)To study the clinically theory of both applied herbs-recipie. (3) To observe the safety and effectiveness of both herbs upon treatment. (4) To seek and secure a reliable Chinese medical herbs to treat Singapore's Chronic Simple RhinitisC. CLINICAL DATUMRecruit 60 paitents from Singapoe Public-Free Medical Centres. Divide them into two(2) groups which consist of (1) Experimental Group and (2) Control Group. Applied Bi-Tong-Ling concentrated liquid cum Bi-Min-Gan Wan to (1) Experimenal Group; and Bi-Min-Gan-Wan to Control Group.D. METHODSBoth applied 3 times a day during Day/Noon/Niight time.(1) For experimental group , applied 20ml of Bi-Tong-Ling and 2 capsule of Bi-Min-Gan, rested 2 days after 4 days's consumption. Whereas for control group, applied 4 capsule of Bi-Min-Gan, also rested 2 days after one course of 4-day-medicine. (2) Clinical effects observation: To observe the change of syndrome integrals before and after the treatment, and also their clinical effects after the treatment.
