Objective To evaluate the influence of ankle positioning On X-ray diagnosis of the Tibiofibular syndesmosis Injury. To improve X-ray diagnosis of the Tibiofibular syndesmosis injury. Methods Twelve embalmed adult lower legs were radiographed in four positions of rotation. The tibiofibular clear space( TFCS ) was measured. One-way ANOVA test and Student-Newman-Keuls test were used to analyze.Result the value of TFCS was 3.59±0.32mm, 5.41±0.63mm,5.48±0.57mm and 2.97±0.51mm, while the position of rotation was 0°, internal rotation 15°, internal rotation 25° and external rotation 10°. Significant difference exists among 0°, internal rotation 15°(or25°) and external rotation 10°. There was no significant difference between internal rotation 15° and internal rotation 25°.Conclusion The variation of ankle positioning has obvious influence on the tibiofibular clear space. At the position of internal rotation 15°-25°, the tibiofibular clear space is relatively bigger. The influence of the variation of ankle positioning can be neglected.
